To answer the question, if you had taken it to the manager he probably would have said something along the lines of "Oh, of course that's a mistake." and sold it to you for the quoted price OR at least explained why it was more than a pound. Maybe there was a disclaimer you didn't notice.

Suing them as quick as drawing your gun is just a none-sense, you should inquire through the sales staff of the store if this ADS is from what planet or year, then the staff would give you some info on what is it or who is it for.

Should I try to help our local police department next to a recent crime?

It have only be like this surrounded by recent years. I am 49 years old and I remember a time when you have to be really terrible to grasp arrested, and police were respectful to most of the public. Now abundant police act approaching a bunch of bullies that just can't linger to cuff! There are some good police gone but they seem to be becoming a reduced amount of. They seem to admiration you as a criminal until you can prove yourelf otherwise.
