No, you are not required by law. Thats similar to having a lock on a box that have your name on it and someone make you open it. The individual way they can capture that camera or the pictures is to call the police and phone call it evidence that could call up an issue which is threat to the other students.
If they enjoy not enough judgment to make you appendage it over, then they can't win the police to hand it over. They will probably titter at the school official. If they do try that all you hold to say is you enjoy portfolio pictures and others that you don't want people to see. Even then, you hold the right to protect the pictures under copyright law to prevent the pictures from otherwise being published or otherwise anyone made public.
