Humans own a special relationship with domesticated animals that are kept solely as pets, ergo they own demanded laws which protect cats, dogs and other domesticated pets that do not apply to abandoned animals or domestic animals being slaughtered for food. Is it hypocrisy? Yes, but that doesn't tuning the fact that dog conflict is a federal crime and hunting during hunting season is not.
If enough relations made an outcry against hunting or the slaughter of animals for food then those animals too would be protected. Unfortunately, no such outcry have yet occured.

Even before these spanking new laws (eff Jan 1, 08) the driving hours required to dig up a license increased to 50 hours. I did the 50 hours and received my license being glad to hold completed such a ridiculous amount compared to other states (like Arizona) and now more law are being piled on me. I am a responsible driver...

I agree with the comment above that no crime is ever 'perfect', but I deduce that what might be an interesting mystery for an investigator to figure out would be to stab a party in the chest, slaughter him, and having adjectives evidence and fingerprints, etc, simply disappear----------------> using a large 'icicle'!!!
