Overtime/work problem, what should I do?

I have some overtime coming to me on my subsequent paycheck... I know a few people from here who enjoy worked overtime, except they didn't get rewarded for it. What the boss did was apparently foot them their regular 80 hours (2 weeks) pay and after gave them a seperate check. On this seperate check be their regular wage, for the hours overtime they worked. No taxes taken out.

I'd like to do this the official way and also not receive screwed out of money, and get a tangible, legal overtime check. If I do catch this kind of dubious overtime check, how do I confront the boss without him getting barmy, and without getting fired? (people enjoy brought up the idea that it might upset him and be paid him fire me if I question his ways)
