Drug Test???
How many of you would agree with me on the following statement:
I am like a lot of folks in this world that must have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck, I am randomly required to pass a drug test. No problem. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it form them? I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do have a problem with helping someone sitting on their butts, doing drugs, while I work. Can you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check? Just wanted to see how many other American citizens feel about this one. Sorry if I have offended anyone.

I grew up on public assistance and I understand your ordeal but at the same time I respectable disagree. I disagree for two reasons. First, not every job that you will work for will ask you to take a drug test. A lot of places now have rehabilitation programs mixed into their HR Departments. Second, most families that are on public assistance have been on public assistance for generations. We also have to look at all of the elderly who would not be able to afford to live without public assistance such as Medicaid. Thankfully I was able to help get my family off of the programs and now fill it is my responsibility to keep the program going by paying my taxes. Yes, there are people who abuse the programs but there are people in the world that are always looking to get over somehow. Their were people filing for assistance during hurricane Katrina two and three times over who have never been to New Orleans. It helps me to just think about the families that are truly in need that are receiving the funds instead of dwelling on the ones that abusing the funds.
I agree.
I agree.
no offense taken. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I agree with you. I work for an electric company and we are shutting of electricity to people who don't pay their bills. Why don't they pay? they spend their bill money on drugs. Their bill money that they get from the government.
ya maybe you have to pass a drug test every six months but really most jobs dont require that. you must be in a field where if you were stoned peoples safety is in jeopardy. it sounds to me that your just jealous you cant get high and other people can. but dont worry people on public assistance are ridiculously poor and you probably make good money.
edit: ok see what im sayin. you work on the narcotics task force. i dont know for sure but im guessin that job pays really well. so while your sittin in your big house, lookin out the window at your fancy car, playin around on the computer , people on public assistance are sittin in a crap house. wishin they had enough money to go to school so they could get a job like you have. damn youd smoke a blunt too if you was in that situation.
I agree with you. A lot of drug abusers cause their own problems because the drugs mean more to them than getting a job. If they want to do drugs they should go get a job and pay for them out of their own pockets.
i totally agree with you.
i totally agree. even if they are drug users they could hold down a job but they are users and they are lazy and that is a sorry mix
Drug testing is for illegal drugs only. The bad thing is drug tests are only good for weeding out the marijuana users. Any coke, crack or meth head can party it up on saturday and pass a piss test monday. Same goes for perscription pills. even if they are not perscribed, most drug testers will overlook those, but heaven forbid you smoke somthing that grows in the dirt. Its more socially acceptable to take a pill that is man made, dont know whats in it, but hey ill take it.
As for welfare drug testing, its random. But like i said, some drugs show up and some dont. So the welfare recipitants are probally using the drugs that dont show up in the system.
hmmm
i never saw it tha way
but you have a very valid point
i think the whole welfare system is flawed in itself
we want people whop honestly have problems to be able to get some help while they look for a job, get out of debt etc
but the point should be help them get off of it as soon as they can
and doing drugs is not helping you get back on your feet
very good point
i had not seen it that way before
the only flaw in your arguement
is that drug tests are not 100%
they make mistakes a lot
they are not allowed in courts
so that may be a problem
the question then comes that whencan cvompanies ruin your life with them when they arent always right
anyway
sorry for rambling
You make an excellent point. But...let's think this scenario through to the end. A mother comes in with her 3 kids to pick up the welfare check. She fails the test. What now? Do you still give her food stamps but no money? Or tell her "Sorry, you can't pay your rent, I guess the kids can sleep in the gutter with you..."? Or do the kids go into protective custody? I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but I'm not sure, once you handle this new crop of problems, that you would save the taxpayers any money. Furthermore, it seems that the government manages to spend as much as it can, as fast as it can. When you find a way to save money, they just divert somewhere else. I think I would rather feed the kids down the street from me than fund another war in the MiddleEast. But, if some day, you should run for office.I'll vote for ya..
I agree with you. I also think it might be a good idea to give drug tests to people who want to stay in homeless shelters or things like that. It's a safety issue as well as monetary.
Yes, Sherryn...I agree...you said it right...I have alway thought that if a person was to be on welfare they needed to show that they were activily looking for a good job, or that they were going to school to better themselves.I also thought they did need to take random drug test...b/c if they cant pass a drug test and they get the money we cant be positive that they are using the money for something other than drugs.I know people that have need to temp. be on welfare, but they were not the ones abusing the system...sometimes life does get you down and it helps, but that person was looking for a job and would pass a drug test...but then I know another person who was completly abusing the system and just wanted to sit on her lazy asss and be paid for it...she was healthy and had no reason to be home.she wouldnt even look for a job! She did not deserve the help!
Anyway...sorry for the rant...in short YES i AGREE!
YES! I'm sick of people sitting on their fat butts eating cookies and smoking weed while I work my butt off just trying to make a living. They also need to enforce what's bought with things like food stamps, and monitor people who get WIC also. Drug tests would be good for ALL those programs.
