How do we take back our political process from "big money" and make our representatives truly represent us?

It is ludicrous that a politicians "job one" is getting reelected and thus worries constantly about raising money. That money comes from lobbyists, big business, etc. How do we change the system to make "job one" for our politicians to represent our needs, our interests?

Answers:
Term limits - go back to the Jeffersonian idea that a man (his words - sign of the time) or woman give a period of service to the Country then goes back to private life. One of our largest problems is they are now career politicians -- and know nothing about running a business (balancing budgets and knowing profit and loss statements. Most in politics today have never had a real job (see Kennedy and Clinton and others). I would love to see a Steve Forbes like person with solid business background would be an interesting change. Yes people need some social services but jobs, responsibility, property ownership, pride in a job well done are dying in this country

Easy! Make more money then the other guys and buy your own president. Clinton is available. That political whore will do anything to get elected, much like Edwards, Richardson, Guiliani, McCain.
I always thought we should elect someone who does not want to be president.
Business runs the country. Keeps its wheels lubed and pays our wages.

Cheaper then. What makes you think the airways are public? The license to operate costs a lot of money. The TV and radio stations are supported by advertising and politics. Make them do something? They own the station. Look it up. You will see that the airways are not free. Not by a long shot.
What needs and interests do you have that are not represented? Have you petitioned or even written congress or senate?
Revolution. It won't happen any other way.
We need to make broadcasters provide free air time for campaign commercials. If the campaigns don't have to outspend each other to be heard, maybe they can focus on their actual message instead of pandering to the messages and agendas of the lobbyists and big-money donors.

The airwaves are public, why should broadcasters profit on advertising intending to sway who the next 'decider -in-chief' is?
Public financing of political campaigns. Take big money and lobbying groups out of politics!
Perhaps we should limit politicians to one term. We could make the term longer, so we don't have so many campaigns, especially for Congressmen who now get re-elected every two years.
Then we should start teaching our children at home and at school how to actively participate in the business of their communities, states, and country. If the same time and passion were spent on this that is put into Little League, we would make some progress.
You asked a very big question and we could do it in a simple way if people are willing. First, you are going to have to look at yourself as a Independent and quit voting for the parties your daddy did just because he did. Second, we are going to have to join together in our purpose to fix the problems of this country and that means not being scared of the changes and staying dedicated. Third, you and everyone else out there is going to have to talk to everyone you know about working to fix the country. I do know one thing the people who are in power now will not go away easily, they make a lot of money and their networks make a lot of money and it has grown to a corrupt mess. It might come down to some fighting or refusing to cooperate to change things but hey the founders didn't say give me liberty or give me death without meaning it and we are at a house cleaning stage in this country, just like a old house needs a new coat of paint ever so often so does the tree of liberty need watering.
They should tear it all down and start all over again! They could start with the IRS!
2ND amendment
It's not the system in it's self, but the uninformed people who have no Idea what the issues are when they go to the polls.Their folks were of a certain party, and they just follow their foot steps, but of course Bush was never voted into office, and should have been impeached long ago.You are correct,Money talks.
