Is it illegal to lift manhole covers in the uk?
What is the legality of lifting drain covers in the uk, im an urban explorer and i need to get through a manhole cover, but i dont wanna get busted for it.
Answers:
Remember rats live in the drains and letting them out could endanger public health
It's only illegal for us women.
I dont think its illiegal, i cant see why it would be
yes it is.. depends where it is.. if its on the public road as its nothing to do with u
if its YOUR private property then no., if its covering the stopcok or say where the drains are
as long as you put it back after you it should be no problem.but god knows why you want to.
Legality depends on several points; Who owns the manhole cover? - Where is it? - How long will the manhole be uncovered? - Is it in a public area? - Is it a foul drain or storm drain access? - Health & safety issues are a consideration. Best to avoid such places; they are generally nasty, dirty and smelly!!
In the UK our drains were built in Victorian times
and are not big enough for humans.
Those that are in big city's are well policed as
we have terrorist trying to plant explosives and if
you were seen assending down drains you would
be shot because t the moment in the UK
we have the police shooting suspects
dead on sight,
You have bean warned.
I doubt you would be allowed due to the very serious Health and Safety implications.
Also most have special turn keys just that people can't randomly open them up and go visiting.
Most just lead to smelly sewers anyway...
You must, if this is a serious question, contact the Borough Engineer's Office at the Council offices in the area you are intending working.
As you will appreciate, raising these covers in a street would have to be controlled, as traffic and pedestrians must be protected from any danger.
You might even have to apply for permission from the Department of Health for authority to do any investigations.
