Why don't they sue!?

Isn't Bill Gates creator of Windows therefore creator of computers so can't he sue Macintosh because I really think there's a better reason than he's just a nice guy, and if The Simpsons always claims Family Guy is a copy of them and copies their jokes (and please don't get angry FG lovers I don't agree even though I hate that show compared to The Simpsons) can't they sue as well for them copying or are they just nice I don't get

Answers:
? Bill Gates did not create computers -- he created software to run on them. And he took those ideas from Apple's System software, who took them from Xerox's original graphical user interface ideas.

The issue is copyright infringement, and "substantial similarity."

Same thing with Family Guy. The question is whether it's so substantially similar that Matt Groening (and Fox's) copyrights are infringed. But, copyright law also allows for the "parody" defense, which allows copying a particular work for social commentary. You may allege that the Family Guy people aren't very creative, but they're probably not copyright infringers.

Bill Gates did not invent computers--lol.
Computers were around long before Gates, he simply made them usefull to the average person...
Bill Gates is NOT the creator of computers.
Gates is soft-ware not hard-ware.

And just so you know he is the one who copies Apple !!

Comedy shows are different. If it's for comedy you can pretty much say anything (thanks to Hustler's L. Flint)
That's like saying that McDonald's created the hamburger.
Thats the problem with America. everybody is sue happy. Thats why insurance, healthcare and many other thing cost so much.
Gates invented software, that was easier to comprehend than before. He took Apple's idea of a smaller computer, combined his genius software, and is now rich enough to buy us all.

However, I believe the first computer (depending on your definition of computer) would be the abacus.
Even if what you said is true...which it's not, Bill Gates is so frickin rich..I don't think he would even care!
If that is so why can't car companies sue eachother especially chrysler suing Chevy for making a car that looks very similar to the PT Cruiser

Also the problem with copyright law is that when people start running out of ideas then everyone will be paying everyone royalties look at the movies for christs sake, there are very few original movies being shown in theaters they're being based off books, comics, and 80s TV shows
Bill Gates did not invent computers nor did he invent the user software. He invented windows.

And since pretty much every simposons episode is a rip off of some movie or book or other tv show, it'd be pretty stupid for them to sue family guy, which, by the way they cannot. If such legislation like that existed there would be no Saturday NIght live (hey, for that matter, why doesn't second city sue Saturday Night Live and Kids in the Hall and Mad TV) you cannot sue on a concept.

Should the decendants of Shakespere sue every one who subsequently wrote a tragedy? (I use this loosely as Shakespere was not the first to do so)
