Jurry Duty?
Not that I care or want to be in, but, I'm 24 and I've never been called for jury duty. I have friends my age that they have been called many times. Anyone has a clue?
Answers:
are you registered to vote?
that's how jurors are selected. if you aren't registered to vote, then get off your butt & do it. Jury duty is one of the small prices Americans pay to be free & to enjoy all our rights.
sure it's a hassle but freedom is better than the alternative of living under a dicatorship.
Are you a registerd voter? Only registered voters get picked in my county.
Yes, it is a weird lottery system, and yes it's based off the voting roles in most US precincts. For over twenty years I wasn't called once, then in the next six years I was called three times (the maximum allowable in my precinct). Go figure it.
I'm 34 and just got my jury duty notice two days ago for the first time. Of coarse I have no desire to find a sitter in the morning to come and take my kids to school, pick up my kidergardener 31/2 hours later, pick them up at school, so I can be at the court house from 8am until 4pm for two weeks. In that time, I have to pay $10 dollars a day for parking, wait god knows how long for my $19 a day I'll make sitting in a courtroom, so that as soon as I'm done there I can fight traffic for an hour to go to my job that will allow me to only be late to work because I start work at 3pm I won't get there until 5pm. Be glad you haven't been called. Some places don't pay you to be off work for jury duty. My job will let you off paid if jury duty is during your scheduled shift. I work 2nd shift so I would have to go to work afterwards. That makes for a really long two weeks. Now I have to waste my time to write them a letter stating that I can't come to jury duty due to the fact that I have kids I have to get to school at the same time I have to be there, and One I have to pick up 3 1/2 hours later. My husband works days and I work 2nd because we don't have a sitter. They will gladly let me go off dury duty because of this but now I have to send them that letter so I don't get a contemp charge against me. It's just a pain in the bu**.
