Would it be a criminal offence to humanly kill my dads dog?
he is very sick and needs putting down.
Answers:
You should not do this yourself. If the cost is an issue (Vets are very expensive) take the poor animal to the RSPCA or to the PDSA where they will deal with the predicament properly and cheaply. DO NOT attempt this one yourself.
It isn't strictly illegal, but it is open to very bad abuse, and you should still seek a vet's advice before putting a dog down yourself. If you do it incorrectly, the dog could suffer badly.
Who would even know?
No it's not a criminal offence , but saying that , it's not a pleasant act to do
The RSPCA will put your dads dog down ,
I don't know if they charge , they did not years ago ,
Probably. It would be ethically wrong too.
Take the poor little sod to the vet
Take it to the vets. Its all to easy to mess it up and it may end up making the dog suffer. Please take him to a vet.
I think by your question that your dads dog is ill obviously, and maybe he can't afford vets bills.
There are several things you could try, before having to put the poor dog down.
If you know someone on benefits, you could ask them to take the dog to there local PDSA treatment is free for those on benefit.
Also if your father needs another option, the dog could be handed over to a local animal shelter.
You could tell them your father is unable to care for the dog anymore, and they will take the dog and give it treatment if needed.Obviously doing this means the shelter takes over ownership, and it is no longer his anymore.
Finally most vets(even private),will put a animal down without giving any treatment. This means you only have to pay for the dog to be put down,so will not be to expensive.
You do not need to be registered to the vet to be able to do this, just phone them and they will let you do this.
Hope this gives you some options to your problems.
