Why do we still have unions for professional jobs?

What's with all these unions these days? Teachers, Firemen, Police, and soon maybe Doctors. C'mon do we have child labor working in the Fire Departments? Why don't these people feel they would get a decent raise each year and never get fired if they did an exceptional job each year. (like the rest of us 9 to 5 ham n' eggers.

Answers:
The purpose of most unions today is to get more than their fair share. The real news is that, by far, most union members today work in the "public sector" - they are school district, water district, city, county, state, and federal workers of one stripe or another.

they have the unions because they have gotten the worst end of the stick before. if someone robbed your house would you not take precautions to make sure it never happened again?
Because in state, city, county or federal employment the supervisor can pretty much fire you for nothing and by having a union you are protected and the supervisors behaviors are documented to protect your job.

I think all Governmental jobs should be unionized to protect the good employees and throw out the political hacks.
