Sunday shopping laws?
why is there this bizarre law that says i can go shopping on a sunday morning,but im not allowed to pay for my shopping till 11 oclock.i can go get a paper,use a supermarket or cafe,no problem,but certain shops have this wierd law imposed on them.are we mad?

There are all sorts of Sunday laws. It goes back to the puritans. Car dealerships are closed on Sundays here.
yeah it seems to be the big chain supermarkets that have this law, you allowed to "browse" their store if they are open before 11 but your not allowed to buy things. its really stupid, but i think the big players of the Supermarket world need to have rules like this so its fair trade.
it still seems weird though, ive always wondered this myself. lol.

They shouldn't be allowed to have customers in the store until 11 am.
Shops are only allowed to be open for a certain period of time on sundays. They normally chose from 11.30 till 4.30 but if they open at 11am then they can have what they call a browsing time, where you pick up what you want for half an hour and then pay when they are officially open, at 11.30.
If they let you pay before that then they would have to close at 4.00 instead of 4.30.
Hi, It all depends on the cubic footing of the shop, so a large supermarket or electrical store can only open for 6 hours on a Sunday. I am glad this is so, i don't work Sundays now but i used to and customers forget that workers have families that they like to be with.
hey i think its mad that shops are open 24 hours a day, but have to close at 10pm on a saturday?
sundays should be the same as any other day of the week
sunday is the only regular day off i get, so i would like to get stuff done on that day, like shopping for example, i would like to get it done as early as possible, so i can spend the rest of the day doing something more productive with my time than queueing
yes the law is 11 in most big shops, it's the law now, because loads of people complained about, having to work longer hours on a Sunday, so the union got involved to change it, hope that helps, keep safe all the best
There is a trading law that depicts when shops are allowed to trade between. In some shops it is between 10am - 4pm, others it is between 11am-5pm.
I work in a supermarket and it allows us to open the doors at 9.30 am,even though we are not allowed to start serving untill 10am.
The first half hour is to allow for 'browsing'. Even though we can not stop people filling their trollies ready.

When a store opens , is down to them , as for not being able to pay for items untill 11 oclock , this is the store getting around the law , as they are inviting you to view before they open
