Drug money?
I saw the news where the Gov. confiscated millions of dollars in heroin & cocain. Also, lots of money wrapped in plastic. What do they do with the money?. Do they give it away. keep it or use it for something in charity. If they do. isn't that a double standard? They take the money because it was gotten illegally, but use it themselves? Either way you look @ it, it's dirty money but I suppose they have to do something with it. Just wondering
Answers:
The money is recycled back into programs that fight drugs and funds a poor box for victims of drug related crime.
That's not a double standard, that's fighting fire with fire.
They take it and use it themselves -- and yes, it's a double standard -- but that's nothing new for the govt.
No, keeping it isn't a double standard. What should they do with it - destroy it along with the drugs? From what I know, they use it toward drug education and other anti-drug programs.
its probably put into evidence and not used for themselves at all
The agency that collects usually gets to keep it. A judge has to award it to them, though.
they don't give it to a charity in my state,..the state gets a portion and the police dept. that confiscated the money gets a portion,..i once dealt with the police, i had $3,100.64 with me, the police accused me, of being a drug dealer, it took the work of a lawyer, to get my money back, did not see the money for 5 months,..
