Is rascism part of the problem of cannabis prohibition?
because it was brought into law on the back of slander towards blacks and hispanics
Answers:
cincywahine is absolutely right. The prohibition on marijuana was brought in largely to punish Mexican migrant labourers who were the largest demographic of users in the 30's. Cannibas use has crossed demographics by now, so I don't know if racism is still a contributing factor, but it certainly was back then.
danny-o - the Opium Wars were not so that rich men could get opium -- it was so that rich men could sell Opium to China, in exchange for Chinese goods. (Westerners didn't have any goods that China wanted, so they forced drugs on them against their government's will.)
The War on Drugs has been about as successful as the War on Terror -- a lot of spin while funneling public money into private hands.
That's just idiotic...you must be stoned while composing your questions.
maybe it started out as a racist thing but it has now turned into big business. you would be amazed how much my city, county, and state profits from the drug war.
you are a moron
Says who?
not sure where you got your information, but that doesn't sound right to me. i think you are way off base. cannabis is a drug, alters your thinking and reactions, has nothing to do with color of peoples skin.
i myself dont think cannabis should be illegal, as alcohol has negative drug like effects but is legal.
Stop asking questions about pot. It's not legal...get over it.
......go back to your bong, retard.
Actually...YES...it was made illegal because Mexicans were known to do it. Look up Harry Anslinger and 1937. That's when marijuana was made illegal.
All you have to do is a little research to find out the truth about why drugs are illegal.
Cocaine was also made illegal because "Negros" were known to do it.
People who are calling you stupid are the ones that are stupid as they are doing nothing more than spewing government propaganda and know absolutely nothing about the history.
what the hel*?
how do you come to such a nonsense?
one joint too much?
addicts are the same, no matter what people or class they're from. and non-prescribed drugs are rarely accepted in today's societies.
not necessarily racism bt perhaps discrimination. Drugs were only legal when the rich men could only have it (19th century). Hence the opium houses were full of rich men, and why Britain went to war ('opium wars')-why would we go to war for drugs?-because the rich man wanted it! When it fell into the hands of the poor and depraved, drugs were made illegal. Maybe because the rich man is more sensible? yet they created the basic situation today
Well said. Yes I think so. That and the failure to support the thousands of officers that would be laid off... Their families depend on paychecks too. All revenue to the internal revenue service. As well as the hundreds of formulae of prescription pills; good for the corporations and the State, addicting and abused by those under the influence of Big Pharma.
Yeah, right!! Are you for real?? When will people grow up and stop throwing the race card everywhere?
Thats ridiculous There are loads and loads of white stoners too! Its nothing to do with being racist towards blacks!
I think you've toked one spliff too many, my friend.
