How do I obtain a copy of my fathers will? Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh). My step mom won't give us (kids) a copy.
My father passed and according to my step-mother he did have a will, but she has not given a copy to me or my brother, and we are my father's only children. She says that he left everything to her, and neither my brother nor I have a problem with this. We are, however, concerned about the land that she and my father lived on. The land is on part of our family farm of over 100 acres and I am just afraid that she will try to sell it to the highest bidder rather than keep it in the family. I tend to believe that my father would have stipulated in his will that the land would go to my brother or back to my grandfather, who sold him the acre for $10. Is there a way that I can get a copy of the will without going through her? She has not been very cooperative and I would rather not have to ask her again.
Answers:
get a lawyer, if she had nothing to hide she would show it to you. You can contest a will
If the will has already been or is in probate, you can obtain a copy from the court house (or county clerk). Your stepmother will have to file for probate in order to get everything into her name.
