Canadian healtcare?
I just ask (on the American edition of answers) if Americans would be willing to pay for universal healthcare like the system Canada has. I was wondering if Canadians are satisfied with their system or would rather have an insurance based system like ours? Or if you have a better system I'd like to read about it.

Canadian health care sucks...bottom line
Yes, I'm very satisfied with our system! It's not perfect, but in my opinion it is far better than the system currently in place in the USA.
Our system works because there never is an issue about profits.
Canada has an insurance based healthcare system like the United States. The real difference is that our government either pays our premiums for us out of our tax dollars (eight provinces) or forces you into their basic plan (BC and Alberta). They also regulate how much practicioners can charge for their work.
What this has done is challenge our ability to build a health care system to brag about because it has made alot of our medical establishment complacent and dependant upon political initative (which is never a good place to be) It has made for long wait times and sometimes lower quality service. The constant upside however is that you never have to worry about a trip to the hospital here being the ruin of your financial future.
