Is it ok to take pictures of people and post them on the internet without consent?

I am beginning a business in photography and I would like to take random shots of people and then give them my business card so they can go online and check to see if they like the photo. If they do they can order a copy. Ive heard that you can take a photo of whom and whatever while in public, however it is not ok to then publish the photo on the web without consent.

I don't see how you can hope to take random pictures of people and then expect them to purchase them. Also, I think more people will be put off/creeped out by your approach than will become customers!

There are some rules which allow for taking pictures in a public place and publishing them without explicit releases from subjects in the photos. However, is it worth the hassle of dealing with multiple complaints?

yes
You might just wanna have them sign a consent form beforehand because people can ile lawsuits for the craziest things these days. It may be annoying but in the long run you'll just be covering your asss
People who are in public can be photographed, and there is nothing they can do to stop you, legally. It's not a crime. But people are so lawsuit happy you'll spend a lot of time answering frivolous lawsuits and dealing with other threats unless you get their consent first. It's not legall necessary, only good business and personal safety.
im sure its legal but make sure you have consent otherwise they could get pissed and then sue or something...
Um, rather be safe than sorry!
Any business law class will reveal that you cannot use people's pictures without their express permission ESPECIALLY in an advertizing display. This is extremely sue-able and your business will be shut down.

NO.
You may take photos for your own personal use. But you may NOT publish those photos ANYWHERE that could be considered public unless you have a signed consent form from everyone in the photo (or from a guardian of any minors). Publishing the photos without consent is illegal.
this is true. so get they're permission before you photograph then, Or you could have a law suit on your hands.
I believe you are correct. There is some degenerate in California (What a surprise) who opened a website to let other degenrates know where are the best parks for checking out little girls and taking their pictures. Now this sicko has thought about little girls who were still in diapers but, decided he didn't like to deal with the diapers!

Nos he's trying to sue the Santa Monica Police Department for publishing his picture and name. I got new s for this scumbag! he has no legal standing and If I were on of the parents I'd beat his as_ until he couldn't move!

I'm so sick and tired of this kind of human garbage being given all the rights and protections, it makes me sick!
