How do I get access to my medical records from when I was a minor?
I am an adult now and my parents will not provide me access to the copies that they have from a specific doctor. I was about 16 or 17 (10 years ago) at the time of the visits with this doctor.

Go to that doctor's office and request a copy of those records. Under HIPAA, they have to provide a copy of that information to you. The limits on mental health records do not apply if they are your mental health records.
Your legal right to go and pick them up.it's most of the time free. At worse they make you pay like two dollars for the copy paper.
Just call first and give them time to set it up...

I'll have to agree with everyone else: they're your records and you have every right to see them. Just ask the doctor to make copies of your file for you.

They cant legally stop you now. Just write a letter of request and they have to give it to you. If that dosent go smoothly then ring some legal group and ask how to go about it. They may have to get them for you.

try searching local records on google..theyll charger you..but theyll do it..maybe..just check and make sure ey chap? best of luck
They are your records now that you are an adult. However, they can take up to 45 days to get the copies made for you. They can also charge you reasonable copy fees including the time for the person who is making the copies. Just remember that if these are mental health records, there are limitations on what they can provide due to HIPPA. You can not gain the records from your parents.
