I am a dental student. I just shelled out a bunch of money for my education. This making up SS# thing was so long ago. If I ever got into trouble for this, it could ruin my life. I need better suggestions than get an attorney! Any?

Getting an attorney is the best suggestion.
You cannot solve the problem by trying to ignore it -- as a dental assistant you should know that ignoring problems doesn't make them go away.
An attorney can evaluate your case, find out the appropriate statute of limitations, and tell you whether you have anything to worry about.
That's the best your going to get -- and certainly better than most random anonymous advice from an internet forum.
Let's look on the bright side, making up bogus ss#'s is not as bad as stealing and misusing the real numbers of real people for fraudulent reasons.
There's a chance it won't even come up, depends on what exactly is being audited. If your fundraiser specifically is the target, then you might want to get a lawyer. Anything else, you should just wait and see.
The scenario you described is at worst a second-rate fraud. You weren't trying to defraud the people to whom these cards were to be issued, you were trying to defraud the credit card company into giving you some sort of finder's fee to which you were not entitled, right?
I really wouldn't worry about it too much just yet.
Try not to worry so much about it unless something comes of this situation. IF and when the situation is brought up you will HAVE to get an attorney.
