Why do animal protection laws not apply to...?

... the animals that aren't cute? Rats, for instance. Spiders? How about cockroaches? They have feelings too, but they're gassed, stomped, and destroyed every day. So, it can't be because they don't have feelings.

Aren't animal protection laws merely there to protect animals that are attractive in some way? Isn't that a bit hypocritical of those that claim that "animals are people too?"

Also... I know some people will reply, "well, I won't harm a roach needlessly." Sure you would. I guarantee if you saw a roach in your home (unless you were already infested, in which case it'd be a useless gesture) you'd probably stomp the crap out of it.

Fah, animals are for eating and using. Just like plants, if you didn't plant it, it's a weed. Vermin need to be erradicated as well as possible so they do not spread disease and death. Animals are not people, they are animals, they kill and eat each other every chance they get, they are just as brutal and vicious as people.

When an animal is parasitic and known to cause disease we look out for our own protection first.
Well, let's start with the fact that spiders and cockraoches aren't animals, they're insects.
some monks in tibet sweep the floor as they walk so they do not step on anything.
Spiders are beneficial so I do not allow them to be harmed around my house. Put them outside if they are a problem but they eat bugs that are a problem. Same thing with bats. They help us. If insects weren't kept under control they would over populate the world in a matter of a week or so.

On the other hand, rats and mice are known to carry all sorts of diseases, some that have killed millions of people. Roaches are the same thing, as are fleas. Use your head when controlling pests. Some are better left to do their jobs where others can cause serious illness or death.

However, cruelty in any form is unacceptable. Torturing something is always wrong no matter what the excuse.
Who cares? Spiders and roaches need to all die a horrible painful death just like Littlefawn Whaley!
Sure...you increase your taxes by about a million percent and then we will have people to prosecute all those ant stepping on evil people.

As with any law, crimes must be reported in order for the law to subsequently be enforced.

It is not against the law to kill animals, rather to harm them or torture them needlessly or kill them inhumanely.
Well, do you know any cops (or even animal rescue cops) who would enforce it? Good luck with that.
