Sold coin on ebay, lost in mail?

Hi, I recently sold a coin on ebay for $300 , in my description I put that I would insure it when shipping. Well, it turns out I didn't because when I went to the post office and waited for like an hour, they said I had to wrap it differently to be insured so I just mailed it out. Now the seller is claiming he never got it and why didn't I insure it with tracking #. I know its my fault but if I refund his money I am out the coin and the cash. Since its a fairly small transaction, I was told by others not to worry about it and just let him to his complaining and it will just blow over. I would dount the police would get involved in a transaction like this so I am thinking on waiting to see if he finally gets it, and if not, just letting it blow over. What is the worst that can happen to me ? My feedback rating is 100% so I don't worry about a negative feedback. Will cops show up at my door or anything or will it just get lost in paperwork and go away. I really don't care to much.

The same thing happened to me and my item was worth a lot more. I sold a Brietling Colt watch. The guy insisted that he never received it. He must have threatened me with more than 50 e-mails that he was going to sue, have me arrested and come to my house.

Well, he did nothing. Millions of transactions take place on ebay every day and thousands have problems. Trust me, just hold your ground and it will eventually go away, especially if he did receive the coin as I'm sure he did.

If you cannot prove deliver or failed to ensure the coin you are liable. It sucks, however it is the shipper who is obliged to ensure that there is adequate insurance placed upon the item as well as to ensure that there is a system of verifying deliver.
The worst that can happen is that you will get sued in small claims court and will end up paying the $300.00 plus legal fees. By completing the transaction, you entered into a contract with the buyer to provide the product as promised. Not supplying the item, for any reason, and not refunding the money is a breach of that contract.

Face it, you screwed up by not shipping it properly. Now be a man and refund the money to the buyer and learn a lesson from this. Why should the buyer be out $300.00 for your mistake?
You need to refund the money, I would try to arrange a 30 day time frame for delivery, but after that 30 days, if he agrees, then you need to refund the money. I know for a fact that you do not have to insure something to get a comfirmation of delivery, .50 cent and it provides a tracking number, so your story does not hold water. If this guy paid through paypal, he can get a refund and complain to ebay and I hope they address it and you are banned from any business that I might decide to purchase from.
Well, if he doesn't sue you then the worst that will happen is that you will be a worthless tool. You screwed up when you didn't insure it or get confirmation about its delivery. The transaction is complete when he receives the item, not when you ship it. It sounds like you don't care so much about doing the right thing as seeing what you can get away with.
