Drivers License?

I am eligible to get my license on Monday (5th). I completed drivers ed and have all the paper work and stuff. When I go to the DPS office do I do any tests or do I show the the paper work and take my picture and wait for it in the mail? I live in Dallas, TX if that helps at all.

Answers:
I do not know specifics for Dallas Texas, but in most of the nation the process is as follows.

1. You go to the office and prove who you are, like you are not an illegal immigrant for example. You also show proof that you have appropriate auto insurance.
2. They give you a written test, probably multiple choice, to make sure you know the rules of the road. You better get a good grade there, or everything stops at that point.
3. They take your photo, and give you the eye test, to make sure your vision is good enough for you behind the wheel, and issue you a special permit where you may drive ONLY when accompanied by certain adult, not accompanied by other minors, only drive certain daylight hours ... the adult is supposed to teach you how to drive.
4. You come back to take a behind the wheel test, to demonstrate to the state that you are a good driver. If you make any mistake at all, you probably fail. This is not just going for an "A" score, it is going for a perfect score.
5. Once you have passed the written test, the eye test, proof that you have proper autio insurance, and the behind the wheel test, you get your license.

If you have any more questions about getting your first license, I suggest you post them in category Cars and Transportation, where many of your peers already have similar Q+A.

I had to have eye test and take a written test.
