Do I have to tell a potential employer about a 10 year old felony?

Its non violent and I havent added anything else to my record. Can I put 'no' for criminal background?

Answers:
if the application explicitly asks for any convictions regardless of when it happen, it would be MUCH worse to leave it off ... cuz they will find out ... but the vast majority have phrases such as "in the past 10 years, have you been convicted ..." ... if that's the case, then mark NO with a clear conscience :)

go ahead, but if the employer does a background check their is a very good possibility it will come up , then you would have lied on the app resulting in being fired most likely
It depends what the application says. Some of them say that if it happened more than 10 years ago, you can leave it out, but the majority of them just ask "have you ever been convicted of a felony?" and then to explain. It's always best to be truthful on job applications, because it will TOTALLY come back to bite you you-know-where if anyone finds out.
Certainly that explanation blank is a great time to tell them that it's not a violent felony and that since then, you haven't broken the law, but don't be surprised if they don't hire you.
Yes. <l:-})-{*
No. When an employer asks, or the application form asks, they don't want you to judge whether it matters. They want to judge for themselves.

You could prepare a short response to their surprise, something like, "Yes, ten years ago. I was such a dumb kid. Never happen again." or "Yes, a non violent felony the same year they first cloned a sheep--and about as relevant to my qualifications for this job." (smile)
Most forms say "have you ever been convicted of a felony" that means ever not less than ten years ago. You should answer honestly and allow them to ask you about the question. Or leave it blank and let them ask you. If you lie and they find out, you will probably be fired.
