CA Attorneys - Child Support related license suspension...how to get it released?
How do you get your drivers license back if it was suspended for failing to pay child support? I know there has to be payment, but what is the procedure for getting the license reinstated?
Answers:
Set a hearing to settle the child support issue (payment plan, paternity, or whatever the issue behind the failure to pay is), then notify the agency that placed the hold on the license. After the hearing, comply with the order and the agency will remove its hold so you can reinstate your license. The DMV will likely charge you a fee to get it reinstated.
Once you have waited out your suspension and comply with court requirements, your license will be returned to you after you pay the $125 reissue fee and show your proof of car insurance at a DMV office. If you're younger than 21 and your license was suspended under the zero-tolerance laws, the reinstatement fee is $100.

My Husband was in this same thing a couple months ago...they started taking out like half of his pay checks because he was not paying child support and finally when they took like 4000 dollars out what he owed they sent a release to dmv and he had to go down to dmv and pay 15 dollars to get it back...its back now...call you local child support office and they can assit you
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT PEPPER IS TALKING ABOUT..IN CALIFORNIA MY HUSBAND HAD TO PAY 15 DOLLARS AND DID NOT HAVE TO SHOW PROOF OF INSURANCE OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT...THATS WAY TO MUCH MONEY FOR THAT! CHECK UP ON THAT ONE!
How is it 125 dollars? All we had to pay was 15 dollars..i was there...i think that 125 is for something else..i dont understand...call ur local DMV and ask! Tell them its a child support case and you were wanting to know how much it is to get ur license back once Child Support clears it!
The laws regarding suspension are specific. Once your driving privileges have been taken away, you'll need to wait the required time (this can be from a month to a year or more), comply with court or DMV requirements, pay any outstanding traffic or criminal fines, and pay a $125 reinstatement fee at the DMV.
Non-payment of child support is a criminal offense. If convicted, usually the courts set immediate payment of the entire amount owed. This would constitute the "criminal fine" referred to in the first paragraph.
Therefore - to obtain the license, the payment of all child support in arrears must occur (to the court), followed by the $125 reinstatement fee (to the Department of Motor Vehicles) and waiting out the duration of the suspension.
