Do you believe in a social contract?
Personally, I do. To me the best argument that there is a social contract between people are children. Without taking care of our children, society would not exist and, without society, everything is moot. Kids need their parents for a given period of time. They need to be fed, taken care of, and educated. Literally, a child, and I mean a baby just born, would die within days of their birth without such an arrangement.
So, with that being said, their needs to be some form of contract between children and their parents or caretakers. And, if that is the case, then automatically their is indeed a social contract in society. Now, how far we take such a belief varies, but the concept is valid.

yep... it's being trashed as we speak...
There is no social contract if the individual does not agree to the terms. Any agreement that exchanges the individuals rights for protection by the government is a social contract. There is such a thing as a social contract but in America, where, except immigrants, people are forced through tacit concent to accept the government is wrong. I never decided that i wanted to be governed by the laws of this country and i have never asked the government for any help. Why should i be subject to the laws of the state when i think that my liberties are more important than aid and protection from a third party. The social contrac in this country is bullshit and the government rules unjustly.
