Certegy letter?
has anyone else received a letter from certegy stating that their personal information had been compromised... it states that an employee has stolen personal credit information and sold it to third parties. what should i do to protect myself? i have put a fraud alert on my SS# but we have been receiving 100's of calls a week from telemarketers now. (and yes, im on the DNC list)

I also received the letter , and asked at my bank about it .
I was told to close my account and reopen another , and to put a fraud alert on my credit report . The Bank Manager didnt seem to think it was urgent as there have been no reports of identity theft from this .
My biggest concern is what company was this thru , as the letter gave me no information , BUT on looking back thru my records , the thing that i noticed was the number they had on the letter was my actual checking account # , and not my debit card # , so it was before i received my debit and the only thing i paid with my actual checking account online was AOL.

Since writing this answer i read some more information on this and i will be at my bank when they open in the morning , The information HAS been used for fraud , and the reports of identity theft are now all over the web .
Close your account , and open another , no matter how much inconvenience this might be , its easier than losing thousands and having to fight for it back
Take a copy of the letter to the bank and have them put it in your file , just in case the worst happens .
Check your credit report at least every 3 months for the next year .
Look into joining a class action suit against them , the apology is in no way enough compensation for the hassles many will go thru over this .
You need to get an attorney RIGHT NOW. You need to call your bank RIGHT NOW and have them move all of your money to new accounts, etc. Also, call ALL of the companies that send you legitimate bills (phone, power, water, gas, cable, etc.). Also, go file a police report WITH YOUR LETTER.
call the police and report it asap.
