Ebay item not recieved! (i'm the seller!)?

hi guys!

about a month and a half ago i sold a remington straightener on ebay and after their payment within the week, i sent the item. offered insurance but they didn't take it so i sent it with express just to be safe so they would get it the next day.. its been over a month and they claim they haven't recieved it and want to open up a dispute.. i dont have any sort of proof that i did send it because i used a prepaid satchel.

they paid using bank deposit...

i told them i could give them half what they had paid me because i had made a loss as well but i dont fully believe that they haven't recieved it..

what can i do??

Answers:
First, let this be a lesson to always send a traceable method. You open yourself up to problems. If you use UPS or FedEx instead of USPS, or choose a trackable method, then you protect yourself.

Second, it depends on the value of the item. I am guessing that it sold for less than $15. If you have a bunch of sales under your belt, then you can handle having a dispute and seeing what comes of it. However, if you are a newer seller, then it may be worth the money to just give it back to them with the agreement that they do not provide poor feedback. (better no feedback than poor feedback.) but I don't know how you can prevent this.

Let them open the dispute. You must have a reciept from ppurchasing the satchel. You offered insurance they didn't take it it, so that made the risk theirs. Contact Ebay to see where you should go from here. Do the chat thing. They will help you know what to do.
when u ship something make sure to get a tracking number
Next time, insure it or ask for a return receipt request.
This time, it sounds like you are screwed . . .
A life lesson well learned.
you SHOULD have also kept any email correspondence you had with the buyer. I buy a lot of items off ebay and when I win a bid, I immediately write to the seller FIRST for his payment arrangement information, then I write him again once I've sent him the POSTAL MONEY ORDER (I don't buy anything unless I can send a postal money order-(which is another record of payment TRACEABLE through the USPS) and then I ASK that he email ME once he sends the item. That way I have an idea how many days it should take the item to reach me. If I do not receive the item in 3-6 days, I RE-WRITE an email to the seller tellng him that and asking why that might be----that way I ALWAYS have a written record of EVERY SINGLE TRANSACTION and their responses... I do NOT delete any of these emails until AFTER I receive the item and it is satisfactory to me---THEN I will write the seller telling him I received it and thanking him---and after THAT I write the feedback on Ebay... BUT, in the meantime I have a running record that will also carry a MAILING ADDRESS and the sellers name (the info given to mail the money order)... AND PROOF of our dealings.
