Did he just fire me?
My boss found out today that I am been LOOKING for a job and have gone on ONE interview. I told him i could not give him a 2 week notice yet, b/c I do not have another job. He then asked if I was going to continue to look and I answered, that if the right opportunity came along I would take it, but until then or ever, I worked here. He asked me to put an ad in the paper for my job, citing he would need more than 2 weeks to train. I did not say I quit, I do not have another job. is this considered a fire?

He may not want you around anymore taking in consideration you have no interest in the job you have now. Who wants an employee who doesn't want to be there?
If he finds someone and trains them, he has every right to fire you. He could have told you to pack up and leave right then and there. It sounds as if you still have a job, for now, but it will be a race now as to what comes first, your notice or him saying "leave".
Don't be so sure it was them "going through your bag" that led them to find out about your new job search - if you have used thier computers for your search at any time, they can find out that way.
Seems to me like it's just what he said -- an ad so he can start training someone before you leave.
Your mistake was letting him find out you were even looking -- either lie and say you're not, or let him find someone else and you find another job right away.
"And by the way, he found out by either he or his wife looking in a bag of my stuff that was left here during my lunch."
Is this an assumption on your part or did they tell you that is how they found out? It could be the interview resulted in a check with your current employer.
What he, or his wife did doesn't sound right to me either. Ask him what he plans to do if you don't want to leave this job, because if he does want to fire you he needs to have a reason, he can't just fire you because you're looking for another job. If he does go ahead and fire you without a reason, talk to a lawyer about whether or not he's within his legal rights to do so, if it turns out he's not then you can sue him.
You shoud have been more descreet, however for how it is right now, I do nto see where you are fired. He was asking for time to find someone to train and he would like more than 2 weeks notice to do that. I would go in and talk to him and tell him why you are looking for a new job and that you are not quitting yet. You would be happy to help find your replacement, but you are not just cutting out on him. If it is hours, or pay or scheduling, expain to him why it is that you are looking for a different position and let him have the chance to make things right with you. If they are looking through your stuff you need to keep things you do not want snoopy eyes to see out of the office. If they go through your stuff without your knowing I would say you need outta there, but in my opinion, he did not fire you.
