Is it illegal to own /use body armor if you are not a cop??

I live in pa, and someone said it was illegal to own/use body armor if you are not a cop, is this true, or is it only in certain areas like a school??

Answers:
I am assuming you are talking about a bullet resistant vest, and not other forms of body armor.
It is legal to own and purchase, as long as you are not using it in the commission of a crime. Using body armor in a crime aggravates it.
Some states also have statutes that say Convicted felons cannot own or purchase body armor.

It should be OK to use body armor anywhere. Why do you need to be a cop to have protection?
Nope, I used to own 4 of them and I sold them for a good price.
It's totally legal, you have the right to protect your life.

But is illegal for ex-convicts to buy or wear (even if they are not doing anything wrong); it's also illegal to wear one while committing a crime.

Only Australia has laws against civil use (thanks to a famous outlaw that used to wear them long time ago).
