ALL states have antiquated laws on their books but it would be too costly to repeal them, and as most ppl realize they are just that, they seldom, if ever, come into use.
it is fun to look at some of them..good for a few laughs..you might be surprised to know how many of them do address sexual behaviors...
Dayton Virginia--"A person of color may not be outside or within the city limits after 7 pm."
Norfolk, Virginia--a woman must wear a corset and have a male escort after sundown.
Richmond, Virginia--it is illegal to flip a coin in a restaraunt to see who pays for coffee.
Stafford Co., Virginia--it is legal for a man to beat his wife on the courthouse steps before 8 pm
Waynesboro, Virginia--It is illegal for a woman to drive up Main Street unless her husband walks in front of the car waving a red flag.
I think we got you beat on the dumb laws. Oh, yeah, just about every kind of sex (anal, oral, premaritial, with the lights off, with the curtains open) is illegal here too.
Virtually all "weird laws" are urban legends. I once did research on this -- went through a list of over 200 "strange laws" from all over the US -- and could not confirm a single one of them. Not one. A "weird law" is either completely made up (just like a lot of "crazy lawsuits") or represents an insane twist on a perfectly normal law.
To demonstrate, here is how to convert a normal law into a "weird" law":
"Murder is defined as the killing of human being with malice aforethought, with no excuse or justification." BECOMES "It's illegal for the murderer to hate his victim." OR
"A motorist may not drive his vehicle through an intersection if the traffic light is red." BECOMES "You are not allowed to cross Chestnut Street if you see something red." OR
"No person shall cause a live wild or predatory animal or bird to be in a public place, unless such person obtains a permit, etc." BECOMES "It's illegal to bring a crocodile to the supermarket." OR IT BECOMES "You are allowed to go to the movies with a dead yak."
And so forth and so on, ad nauseam. I find it irritating -- it's stupid and childish, and moreover harmful to the public. Most lay people are jaw-droppingly ignorant about law as it is, and the whole "weird laws" cult is adding more misconceptions to the pile. So I respectfully ask people, PLEASE, not to spread it around.
Thank you.
