Uk question in particular Scotland.re my medical notes;?

Now that the NHS have decided to go down the route of entering all our medical records/history onto a computerised system I wnat to know who can access these records other than my doctor and the hospital/NHS direct?.

I had an instance very recently whereby a receptionist at the hospital that I attend was able to access all medical history online. I was able to see this as I was standing at the desk waiting to book another appointment.

I asked my doctor and he could not give me a specific answer. I'm concerned that anyone can access this NHS computerised system for storing our medical history. I do not want the receptionists at my local doctors having knowledge of all my medical history.

What do you think and is there anyone out there who has st knowledge of this subject. I want to arm myself with information before I contact my local health care trust find out more (in my case Grampian Health Care trust) as to the legal aspects including the data protection act?

Answers:
Anybody can view your medical records including social services, private detectives, banks, emploers etc. You cannot opt out of the Spine system, we have all tried it and the Department of Health tells everybody where to go in an 8 page standard letter. We are lobbying for the law to be changed. Contact UK Community Issues Party.

I called the surgery yesterday regarding a hospital appointment I never got and the receptionist, when asking my date of birth and confirmed my name could tell me when I saw the doctor and that it was the ENT department I had to phone, so I presume she would have accessed my file. I know that you can legally see your own files. hope this helps, from Glasgow.

Use the link above to seach for the Data Protection policy for your doctors surgery. Just type data protection in the search bar and you will get a 7 page list of facilities.
When making a complaint, first go through the practice manager at your GP's then go to the Trust if they fail to resolve it.
