Leadership question: How to run a meeting with the following problem behaviors present...?

1. The long winded interrupter even after censure regarding time constraints?

2. The caller that buzzes a radio show and while on the air asking their question, works in a free (and unsolicited) advertisement during the segment

3. The tag team person who backs up a fellow member who has already been asked not to do a problem behavior (setting up an impending mutiny unless quickly dealt with?)

Answers:
You ask good questions that have stumped a lot of facilitators over the years! The long-winded interrupter needs to be dealt with firmly and unequivocally. He/she needs to be told in no uncertain terms that interruptions of any type will not be tolerated, and will he/she will be subject to immediate suspension from the meeting (and ultimately to termination of employment) if the behavior continues.

The on-air advertiser may be subject to editing on a delayed broadcast, if you have a 5-second delay capability. It's difficult and expensive to monitor these, though. Perhaps when the calls are initially answered and screened, there could be a recorded caution that on-air solicitation or product/service advertisement of any kind of prohibited, and may result in legal action. Each caller would then be required to leave some sort of identifying information (name and telephone number, perhaps) - and would not get through the screening process to get on the air if they do not leave the required information. There's nothing to prevent someone with bad intentions from lying about their name or inventing a phone number, but it's a difficult situation, at best. Finally, you could have your on-air personality prepared to make some sort of disparaging comment on the air about the product or service that's being pushed, while immediately disconnecting the caller. That may be the most effective route, and the least costly - after your on-air personality heckles the product or service a few times, callers will likely figure out pretty quickly that they're not going to be getting free ad time without having their product/service made fun of.

The tag team couple is a dysfunctional dynamic that needs to be separated BEFORE they come into the meeting. One of the two needs to be reassigned to an area of the business where their duties and responsibilities have no overlap with the other. This kind of situation can be extremely damaging to group dynamics and you're right to want to address it quickly.

Good luck to you!

Fire them for insubordination.
They aren't following the rules of the meeting.
Radio there is a 5 second delay for cuts..
Things go on in a meeting--so what??
Chris-I don't know what position you hold in this scenario, but if you're in control you have to be harsh. For the long-winded interrupter, you have to cut him/her off and stick to it. Everything he/she starts to speak, you must say "your time is up. I will not listen to any more comments from you." The same approach with number 3--stop it immediately and no matter what argument you get, the only response you make is: "I'm accepting no more comments on this issue." Remember, it takes 2 people to argue. You do not respond except by repeating your theme--which is--"no more time"
Number 2 puzzles me because I don't know that much about broadcasting--isn't there a __second delay where the comment can be cut off before it is aired? Chris-I'm pretty clueless on number 2.
Sounds like you need a call screener.
If you have to ask total strangers how to do your job and how to handle the problems you are being paid to fix all I can say is that you do not deserve your job or the money you are being payed.Find a job that does not require you to manage others. You clearly do not have the strength or brains to watch over anyone but yourself.

Sorry but this is the real answer.
