In Feb 07, fell asleep for seconds at wheel, involved in car accident where other person had minor injuries?
I had taken a sleep aid right before leaving friend's home & involved in accident within hour nodding off. Sleeping aid always took 3-6 hrs 2 take affect & I was under strict doctor's care for my insomnia. Because they always took so long to take effect, was advised 2 take them 3 hours prior to sleep. Took them 2x per week & never had problem falling asleep driving before. Had trauma happen night before--don't know if stress caused me 2 have accident. DA had case from April 2 end of June. My doctor wrote excellent letter explaining my problems wth drugs working; my high metabolism & this drug always taking 3/more hrs 2 take effect. She also explained she totally believed it was the trauma that caused my impairment, not the drug. The DA chose not 2 charge me criminally, but pushed to civil court. City atty. will decide 2 chg me wth DUI or reckless driving wth NO driving priv. for 1 year. Extreme 4 1st offense? Elderly mom&husband wth poss cancer that depend on me to drive

I'm sorry to hear about your plight, but, having been on the other side of the coin somebody ran me over and I will now forever be impaired you got way too easy. I would've insisted you spent years in prison for attempted manslaughter.
You knew you were under the influence and got behind the wheel of a two ton vehicle.
I don't know it's really hard to say. Like, you should definately be charged with SOMETHING because everyone makes mistakes and no one should be slid past that stupid truth. But, the 1 year thing seems really strict..I don't think i've heard of anyone with a DUI who got it suspended that long the first time?? I guess just be glad you aren't going to jail. That would really suck.
Hmm, I guess the fact that EVERY SLEEPING MEDICINE EVER MADE has BIG FREAKING WARNINGS about NOT DRIVING while taking the meds just went right past you. You are lucky you are not in Jail, and that you didn't kill someone. Be glad you just lost your licence, and I personally am glad that an idiot like you is off the road.
sorry for your "trauma". you should have waited until you got home to take the drug... i'm sure it states clearly on the bottle, "may cause drowsiness", "do not operate motor vehicle", may impair vision"... something along those lines. you chose to act carelessly, and because of your reckless behavior someone could have been killed!
I was stupid and got bagged for DUI. Whose fault, the cop who pulled me over? the clerk who ran the ballon test? The judge? No.MINE !!!!
Alcohol or any drugs ---- NO DRIVING
these people are mean as hell but i do think thats extreme for you 1st offense
you should have thought of your mom and husband before you got behind the wheel. and, do you think it's ok that the people that were hurt, had minor injuries? what about their car,and the trouble you caused them? why would the d.a. want to charge you with dui if you hadn't been drinking?
you'll be lucky if you're not sued. thats why civil court.
Sorry but you should have known better than to drive after taking any medication, you are totally in the wrong. Instructions on taking them I'm sure tells you of the danger of driving after taking them.
I myself and you should too just be thanking God that you did not kill someone.
You would not want me to be the judge that you go in front of, I myself lost my wife because of a person that took drugs and then drove.
You did wrong so pay the piper and don't do it again.
All have a great day. Dave
