Should the 500-pound man be allowed to adopt his nephew?
I don't think he should. He's too fat and will die way before the child is grown up.

I wouldn't let him, he is bound to eat the nephew, GET IN MY BELLY!!
I think the child - and all adoptive children - should be placed in the best environment available, whatever that is.
So maybe the question is what else is available.
Perhaps adopting his nephew will give him the motivation to lose weight.
It may be the closest living relative to the Boy, so I think if the Child adoption agency thinks it is all right, the by all means, do it.
Just because he is fat doesn't mean he will be a bad parent. I realize fat people are acceptably discriminated against more than anyone..but ..keep in mind they are related and the child will probably be loved more than in any other situation. Yeah..he may die before the child grows up..but there are no guarantees in life. Better to have a parent that loved you die young..than have an abusive parent outlive you.
They are wrong not letting him adapt. He has been fostering the child. The court should not have the right to tell people they are to fat and discriminate on that. I thought discrimination was not allowed in a court of law..
Just because he is fat doesn't mean he would be a bad parent. There are so many skinny parents (and unhealthy also) out there that are terrible parents.
Parenting is about love. I'm sure the child would rather live in a loving home for a small time then have a miserable life without someone who actually cares for him.
If any other parent developes diabetes or sleep apnea (like the article says) does the child have to taken away from them? No!
