Do we need tougher sex offender laws?how do we get them?

I find it hard for anyone to make me understand how a man accused of fighting dogs can get more time in prison 6yrs than someone who is CONVICTED of molesting children? It is a sad fact. A child molester can get as little as probation no jail time. How many children have to die at the hands of these kinds of people before we change the law. AT LEAST i think someone should get 10 years for molesting a child. AT LEAST! Please google the Chris Barrios story. He was 6 years old and raped by 2 sex offenders ( a father and son) while the mother and wife of the rapests "pleasured" herself while she watched!! Had there been tougher laws, this poor child would not have suffered this way. Also, people like that don't deserve special treatment. I am talking about the fact that sex offenders are not kept with the general population (in prison)because they would kill them. am i supposed to feel sorry for these people?? treat them like the criminals they are!do i see it differently as a mom?

You start with gettgin family and friends to put pressure on their local politicaian who represents them in the state senate, state house of rep., then also the US senate, and US House of Rep. You have to constantly call their local offices and Washington DC office and write letters and e-mails Bugging them to death about changing the laws.
2008 is an election year, perfect time to put the squeeze on them and use the newspapers to do it.

You can check your phonebook for who represents your area. It should have them listed in the front. somewhere.

Oh, it's a sad, sad world. John Walsh had to fight for years to have the laws changed.
Whenever you see one go to this site and report them, if you live in another state than go to that state in here!

It would take politicians with courage to do it.
Unfortunately, we don;'t have too many of them.
You pointed out the exact problem. It's more with the justice system and the State's attorneys than a problem with the laws. If the existing laws were in fact enforced and not practically nullified by ridiculous plea bargains there might not be an issue.
Too many times they plea down violent crimes (or other crimes where there is a real live tangible person as a victim) to almost no penalty while somebody that happened to have an 'illegal substance' in their possession (or was involved with dog fighting/ cruelty to animals) gets years of jail time.
You're right, there is no way for anyone to make a logical explanation of this phenomenon. At least not one that is morally or otherwise justified and doesn't involve money/greed.
