What can my mother do about this??

My mother moved from California to Wisconsin, and she hired a moving company. The moving company moved her stuff into a Wisconsin storage unit, because the house was not going to be available for a couple of months. Now 2.5 months later, she had her belongings moved into her house by another company. She has a large flat screen tv and a box of kitchen stuff nowhere to be found. However, the first moving company only has a 30 day claim period. Her stuff has been in storage. What now? I feel sooooo bad for her.

Answers:
I know this won't make you feel any better, but she really should have inventoried everything before the moving guys had left the site. Considering the first moving company had a 30 day claim time frame, I am afraid she may not be able to do anything. You might would check into what sort of claim could be filed with the second moving company, but with that, you have no proof that it wasn't the other company. I do wish your mother the best!

I'd talk to an attorney
I would think she was S.O.L. Sorry.
How do you know it was missing as a result of the moving company? Maybe someone from the storage unit stole it.
there is insurance your mom should have opted to take to protect herself. and when i have a moving company put items in storage...i stand right there and watch them...and i place the lock on the unit.

she is basically out of luck on this: 30 day period passed, no insurance and did not supervise the move into storage.

i feel sorry for her...but alas i feel she has hit a dead end.

good luck :)
too little too late
Small claims court in California.

Also, your Mom should contact the Department Of Transportation, I believe that they govern moving companies, if I'm wrong about this they will most certainly tell you, and they can also point you in the direction of the agency that does govern moving companies.
Sucks to be your mom doesn't it?
Best thing to do is to go to a lawyer. Or even the local politician. I had a similar problem transporting a motorbike that got damaged. There were two companies involved and they both said they didn't do it. I took this problem to my local politician and he sorted it all out and I got my cheque to recover the damage.
