The federal law says its illegal. There are numerous instances where medical marijuana clinics and people who use medical marijuana have been arrested by the federal government. Medical Marijuana is not legal on the federal level so it cannot be legal in any state.

California legalised it for medicinal purposes and some other state has also but dont remember where.
However it is still a federal crime so even though Cali says you can have it, you can still be charged in federal court

Yes and no.
Several states (including California) have specific exemptions to the general laws for marijuana that is used pursuant to a medical prescription. In those states, you cannot be prosecuted under the STATE drug laws for possession or use that meets those requirements.
