Contact the man on the GMTV site (his name escapes me at the moment - Martin ?) He has some really sound advise

Under the Banking Code anyone facing financial hardship are to be treated sympathetically - in most cases the Ombudsman won't consider a case until it has been dealt with through their banks own complaint procedure
Maybe the Benefits Agency can give you some more advise on how to approach this or contact The Financial Services Authority.
Your bank is obliged to treat your complaint seriously - do not let them fob you off - if you feel a fool phoning then write them a letter.
Good luck
I think you would be entitled to legal aid if you are on benifits.good luck.
The FSA and the Ombudsman are taking the banks to court but there is a clause under the banking code that if you are suffering hardship the bank should carry on with the complaint. From what I understand is that each bank have a specialist team to investigate the hardship claim. You have to provide copies of outstanding bills, mortgage etc etc...
I'm on benefit ,i claimed my charges back, and the bank gave me 1 month to find another account.as they were closing mine
