Anybody else hate traffic wardens?!!?

Just about to step out of my car when a traffic warden stopped next to me and started writing down my number plate looking really smug so i asked her what was wrong she then went on to tell me i was parking illegally - WELL if that was the case why didnt she just tell me as I was parking and I would have moved!??!
What is wrong with these people?!

Has anyone else had a bad experience with traffic wardens?!!

Answers:
They get off on the little bit of power that they have.

I hate them, too.

they are only doing their job and have to hit targets and get commission on each car they put a ticket on.
Just the one.

They do a hard job, and to be fair, one that is needed. With traffic wardens about, it can be hard to drive about when there are cars illegally parked on the roads. Also, I have lived in an area that needed permit parking, and traffic wardens are needed to enforce that.

The one experience I had was when I was trying to ask a traffic warden if it was okay to park in a place, as the signs about parking restrictions were unclear. Got a very rude response. Did not serve as a good example of a traffic warden in my view.
Did you know you were parking illegally when parking? If so, you really have no reason to complain. If not, perhaps something needs to be done to have what is legal and illegal in terms of parking more clearly marked (or perhaps address this more thoroughly in drivers ed).
I don't like them either
Let's face it. You were parked illegally, you were planning on getting out and leaving your car. If she had just happened by 60 seconds later, you wouldn't have had the chance to even talk. You would have picked up the ticket and paid it, like you are doing now!

Traffic Nazi's do get this power thing going though. It's like they are military wanna-be's.

Just follow the law, and I find you don't have to deal with them.
That would have the kinder thing for her to do.Inform you that you couldn't park there. But people also expect you to read the signs and abide by the rules. These days, confrontation is not the best way to go.
Katie - you're obviously ignorant about driving. Its up to you to check if it is legal to park. It is not up to traffic wardens to educate you everytime you just pull up where you like. Perhaps this will be a lesson to you.
I don't hate traffic wardens. What really irritates me is bad drivers! Particularly ones that think they can obstruct the traffic and make my journey take longer just because they've left their hazard lights on (they're the blinky orange ones Katie).
Practically everyone who drives a car in London or any other large city!
It appears:

(a) you were parking illegally; and

(b) you were doing it next to a traffic warden.

First question - how bright is that? Parking illegally is bad enough, but next to a warden? Not the best plan for the average motorist. However, to continue.

The warden wrote your number down. Why did that surprise you? What do you think her job entails? (By the way, it does not look like she gave you a ticket - otherwise you would have said so. Therefore, not only was she doing her job, she was also using her discretion in your favour.)

From there, instead of you accepting with good grace that she was doing her job, and doing it properly, you ask what is wrong with HER!

I think the far better question is "What is wrong with you?".

As for "hating" traffic wardens - well, to "hate" all traffic wardens because one quite rightly told you that you were in the wrong is pathetic beyond belief and akin to saying "I hate all black (white/Asian/Chinese) people. It is akin to racism but the reason you give is a poor reflection of your own intellect and personality.
You might hate them, but imagine the chaos on our roads if everyone parked wherever they liked.

Most are under instructions to issue ALL illegal parkers with tickets and not to warn or give any leeway.

This is actually a sensible policy as it does not allow any discretion on the part of the warden and does not leave the warden open to charges of favouritism. To warn you, would have been completely against her company's instructions. Why should she risk her job for you?

Your bad experience is with the company employing the warden and issuing them with such 'black and white' instructions.
Dont hate them all becauses its their job, and some of them do a excellent job. You get the stuck up ones too whom i dont respect, but i dont judge all of them as one because we are all individuals
One was actually very kind to us. When I was 38 weeks pregnant with severe pelvic pain we stopped the car in town to get me something from the chemist - the car park was full and the nearest other car park was a long walk away (down a steep hill which I could not manage to walk up), so my other half parked on double yellows just while he popped into the chemist for me.

While he was gone I needed a wee so popped over the road to the public toilets and when I came back found a Yellow Peril ticketing our car.

I explained the situation (he could see how pregnant I was and how I was having trouble walking and the lack of parking spaces) and he said that if we wrote a letter to him he'd get the ticket quoshed.

Well I went into labour 2 days later and with all the upheaval of my son's arrival my partner forgot to write the letter so we ended up with a court summons for the unpaid ticket.

I immediately rang the office and spoke to the warden and he said he totally understood, he had kids himself, and he got the ticket cancelled so we didn't have to go to court.

We saw him again last week whilst shopping in town and he was admiring our (now 8 month old) baby!

So there are some good traffic wardens out there! Although I agree there are also a lot of nasty little Hitlers.
Traffic wardens , are wanna be police

By the way , I hope you did not get a ticket , as they have to wait five minutes before they issue a ticket , law
