How long after an assult occurs can you file a restraining order/charges?

Answers:
Call your local police. Now. Do not wait any longer. Ask them if there is a time limit. If not, go to a judge and take out a restraining order. Then file it with the local police. Good luck.
I know the sooner the better but if you are a female who was abused by a male it really doesnt matter I don't think. Just call the cops and they will tell you.
Immediately. The police can get an emergency one that is good for 24 hours and/or 10 days (they contact the judge-on-call who makes the determination) then you go to court. Once in court, the judge determines how long it is good for, usually one year, and will issue a new retraining order. If you don't show up for the court date, assuming you are the victim, then it is only good for the time the original one is issued for. In my experience, after 12 years of showing up for court to renew my restraining order, the judge just issued one for "lifetime" against my stalker. I don't know if that is ok in MD though.
I don't think there's a time limit, but do it immediately.
