Can a police officer lie to a judge in court and get away with it?

Can a police officer knowingly lie to a judge during a bond hearing in order to increase bond on someone? Say, this officer stated that a child was blinded by a person that they want to charge with abuse when that child has perfect vision? Can they get away with this?

Answers:
It would depend on what you could prove the cop was lying about. Obviously you can prove to the judge that the kid has perfect vision, and then the police officer would get charged with perjury.

No, they are committing perjury (lying under oath).
can a defendant lie to a judge, can a lawyer lie to a judge, can you lie to a judge?
It happens every day in every city, the jury will decide who is lying the least
Police do it quite often. It's only recently that we're discovering the extent of false inprisonment thru DNA tests. A judge in Maryland just issued a ruling that states police officers can be sued for libel.

Anyone can lie to a judge, they just can't get caught without suffering the consequences. Same goes for cops.
