Are ALL Sexual Offenders bad?

I have a coworker for my summer job, he is 18 and slept with a 15 year old girl and is now registered.

He recieves the same punishment as a 50 year old man who repeatedly goes and rapes a 5 year olds. Is this fair?

Most people who are registerd do these type of acts, like a 18 year old with a 16 year old. Only a few sex offenders go for kids 12 and under.

MOST girls

The easy answer is "yes", but I don't think it's the right answer. In your example, the sex was consensual. Therefore, that cannot be compared with a forcible rape. The other problem is there is no uniform definition of sex offenders among the states. Urinating in public is a sex offensive (indecent exposure) in my state--even if you tried to be discrete. I forced a guy to register as a sex offender in my state (I'm a prosecutor) and he moved to Arizona, where he didn't have to register. We like to categorize people into tidy little labels and they don't all fit. What your co-worker did was illegal, but itsn't the same as all other sex offenders. How can people even compare him to someone who raped and murdered a child, for example?

YES they are...

But what he did does not constitiute a offense if it was consensual...

I think this case will be getting tossed.
no, alot of girls dont know what they want at that age. but yeah, i think its unfair about the guy being 18 and the girl being 16 and being a registered sex offender.
I dont think an 18 year old guy is bad for doing it with a 16 year old girl.
They really need to do something about that. That is clearly completely different than a 30 year old man molesting an 8 or 9 year old boy or girl. Consentual sex is completely different than rape and they need to stop labeling them all as "sex offenders" because everyone assumes the worst. When I was 14 I dated 17 and 18 year old boys and if anything I jumped them!
I hate sex offenders, especially against children, but some people are given this label for the wrong reasons. I new a man who is a registered sex offender for kissing his newborn grandson's stomach and someone took a picture and the person who developed it turned him in for it. His is now a registered sex offender for this innocent act.
In most state there are different punishments dealt for statutory rape (like in your friends case); however, I could never have imagined at 18 sleeping with a 15 year old. It is called staturory RAPE because the girl is consider not of age to be able to consent.

If he receives the same punishment as a 50 year old man who repeatedly rapes 5 year olds, then he would be in jail for quite a long time.
regardless of maturity he knew the law and decided to break it based on what feels good . So yes he should be judged the same as any other molester for failing in his responsibility of an adult
If he was found to have no psychological issues detouring him from seeing whats right and wrong and he was completely aware of what he was doing... He is indeed a sex offender. Maturity may be matched most of the time, but unfortunatly, the government decides what is adult and what isn't. I know people who are in their 40's who you act as though they are 15... Yet thay can do all of the adult things they want. I know kids who are more mature than adults and have way better descision making abilities than their peers. Still, thay are not legal.

If a child is molested from the age of 5 to 9, by a family mamber 3 years older of the same sex... Should they be labled as offenders? You will never know your true feelings on this subject until it either happens to you or to a close family member. Not only does a stolen innocense follow you around for the rest of your life, it makes you see the world in a whole different view. So with that said, in my mind, Yes. All offenders who know right from wrong are bad.
I understand your point. I think there should be punishment for the under-aged seducer. There are plenty of young girls that go after these older men, lie about their age, and sleep with them. When the under-aged girls' parent(s) find out, she acts as if she were not in agreement with the sex, she doesn't tell the truth about lying about her age, etc. I think they should be charged as an accomplice to the crime (especially when the sex is consensual).
No, not everyone who is require to file as a sexual offender is a bad person. I recall reading a case where a guy got an email from someone that contained child porn in it. The guy, offended that he received the email, calls the police in an attempt to get the person who sent the email arrested. He was arrested instead. Why? Because he possessed child porn on his computer.

Another case I read about had a kid who wound up being labelled as a sexual offender. Why? Because a VIRUS was placed on his computer, that computer was then used to send kiddie porn via yahoo, and the authorities showed up at the house one night. The kid did give a guilty plea to a charge of showing a playboy to kids in school (which he also did) but that still required him to register as a sexual offender. All because someone else was using his computer via a virus.

The laws need to be changed to hang those who are REALLY guilty of these crimes and to leave alone those who have special circumstances like these 2.
if a boy n girl r sleeping in abed with their own choice there is no need of punishment
this makes no sence to me...who told you that they got the same punishment? sexual crimes are put into different classes( class A felony class B felony etc.) depending on the age of the victim, at 18 having sex with a 15 year old he would have gotten unconsensual sex with a minor.the 50 year old man would have gotten gross negligent rape of a child under the age of 6.big difference in the eyes of the law.irregardless, the law states that having sex with a minor is punishible by law, i am sure he new that he was breaking it when it occured...he deserves what he got ...maybe this will help others to understand that the law is in place for a reason.i dont know where you get your information from but 40 % of sex offenders are ones who rape children that are under the age of 13 years old thats more than a few in my book...
Actually you have your facts all wrong there are very few sex offenders that are on the sex offender Registry for statutory rape meaning consensual sex with minor,You really should check your facts before you make such comments,I agree the acts of sex between a 16 and 18 is not very serious and should not be treated as a major threat .
