Why do prisoners have rights, they should lose their rights as soon as they take someone elses rights away?

the public have a right to feel safe in their own home, but burgulers and rapists have aken that right away

so when they go to prison they should have their rights taken away

some people say that they deserve human rights but surely they havent treated their victims with human rights so we shouldnt treat them with human rights

give them dirty bathrooms and rubbish food i say

what do you think

Not only am I an advocate for tougher punishment both for juveniles and adults, I also believe firmily that Capital Punishment should be exercized.

A person who has demonstrated the willingness to destroy the lives of others has no place in society and must be removed. Yes, tougher punishments like life in prison can keep these people off the streets, however they are still causing negative effects on society from within their cell walls.

You need to take into account that on average, it costs $55,000 per year to incarcerate a person long term. If a murderer is given a life sentence and lives in prison over a 30 year period, the bill to tax payers when added up is estimated to be ONE MILLION, SIX HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS. That is for one murderer. Assuming that he is not paroled and gets back into society and kills again.

So, right now it is estimated that there are 128,000 criminals serving life terms across the US. The bill to taxpayers for one year is SEVEN BILLION, FORTY MILLION DOLLARS. After thrity years, tax payers will have spent TWO HUNDRED ELEVEN BILLION, TWO HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS housing criminals on life sentences.

This money could be better spent on education or housing and healthcare for the less fortunate if these criminals were executed.

Not everyone in prison is guilty. I don't think they should be able to watch tv and play video games and stuff, but I do think they are still human. Also, if you don't believe that prison reforms people then what is the point? You'd have to just kill all criminals.
prisoners have rights because it keeps them from committing more crimes when they get out.

they get out because we make more money as a country when people are working, rather than dying.

using the eye for an eye technique--the united states should practice acts of terrorism--the very thing americans find so repulsive.

sure you thought this through?
They are like that to protect them.
If we treat them inhumanely then we are just living on the same level they are. They should have SOME rights, just not all rights. They lose the right to their freedom. They lose the right to choose when they do what they do. They lose many rights while in prison.

What we really need to do is make more of an effort at both rehabilitation and prevention of crimes. If we could turn more of these kids around as teens, they wouldn't turn into criminals as adults.
That sounds like Commi talk to me. That's how they treat them in China and Cuba. Perhaps you would feel more comfortable there?
Yep, and dirty bed linen! lol x
They do lose a lot of rights... hello? They're in prison and jail. If we take away basic human rights, we'd be as bad as they are.
well to a degree they do lose thier rights.
Ie they sit in jail, cant go buy smokes, or a beer.
nor watch the football game.

should they be treated like animals? i say no.
they do have the rights to live, and the like.

personally i say convicted murders 100% guilty,
should be executed.
but other than that i believe convicts do deserve rights as well.
you would think so, but that is not the way our country works, we have to treat the worst of us the same as we treat the best of us.
i worked in a prison for 2 years... as some people pointed out, not all of the prisoners are burglars / murderers or rapists. a lot are in there for unpaid fines, drug use, or fraud.

i agree with u to a certain point... prisoners should not be given a cushy time of things when they are in there. in my opinion, they should be made to work. that way they pay some of their debt to society, and also learn new skills that could help them to lead an honest, productive life once they are back on the outside... i do not however believe that they should be allowed things like TVs in their rooms...

as for giving them dirty bathrooms and rubbish food, well, that's going to cost society more than it would to give them basic good food and hygienic toilet facilities... there would be the extra cost of health care as the inmates would be ill more frequently, and also inmates have a habit of rioting when denied basic rights. the cost would run into millions of pounds just trying to stop the inmates from destroying the prison from the inside out. also, they would come out of prison with an even worse attitude to authority than they had before... i do not think it would be a sufficient enough deterrant to stop them offending again... if someone is going to commit an offence, then the thought of poor food and a dirty toilet is unlikely to stop them. they've already had the one major human right taken away from them; their freedom.

also, speaking as an ex prison officer, i would personally not want to work amongst inmates living in squalid conditions.. the risk of disease would be a major health risk to staff, not just inmates. the job is already stressful enough (gave me a nervous breakdown), without adding more stress to the prison worker's lives.

so basically i believe that the prisons have the level of care about right, but more should be done to make the inmates work off their debt to society.
