Why are these people being let out of jail?
OK-so I have custody of my neices and nephews...and their mother keeps going in and out of jail along with her sister. My question is, why are they being let out? For example, their mom was let out a couple of years ago in TX, and was put on probation for 3 years..she violated within 3 months, and only recieved 8 months...was PUT BACK ON PROBATION and violated again within 3 months, now she is looking to do MAYBE 4-5 months...I thought she was required to do that 3 yr? Also, she has been caught with an ounce of meth, 3 grams of meth and 2 oz. weed w/ the violations---that seems like that would deserve plenty of time on it's own to me. And her sister has been arrested for running a meth lab, falsifying gov doc, recieving stolen checks and unlawful poss of firearm TWICE. She has MAYBE seen 2 months of jail and is running the streets now----can someone tell me what went wrong with the justice system that this scum hasn't been locked up for at least 10 years? Both are in TX

Drug charges get less and less time as the years go by. I read a story the other day about people coming across the border with weed and if they didn't have more than 500 pounds of weed, they weren't going to be prosecuted for it. So, yeah, there is some extremely relaxed punishments on drugs anymore.
It might have something to do with all these people saying that drug crimes shouldn't get any time, just fines, etc. Some states only fine for possession of weed, even if you have the intent to sell.
i agree with you. they should be locked up. for a long time but the judical system is funny that way. i dont understand it either.
Overcrowding.
I'm curious, why do you feel that recreational drug use, in and of itself, should even be illegal? I understand that your sister has made some pretty bad choices, but shouldn't it ultimately be HER right to decide what she puts into her own body? Granted, if she is being a neglectful parent she should have her children taken away from her, and those other crimes you mentioned should be punished. But one has absolutely *nothing* to do with the other. If drugs were legalized and drug testing in the workplace would be more strictly regulated (i.e. not allowing a company to refuse a job applicant just because he smoked a goddamn joint 2 saturdays ago), such people would be allowed to get legitimate jobs and pay for their drugs without resorting to criminal activity or neglecting their families just to support their habit. And no, I've never personally smoked or inhaled/snorted/injected anything, but I know many people who occasionally do and they actually have no trouble running their lives. It's the politicians and the justice system that are causing many of your sister's problems, much in the same way that a quack doctor comes up with all kinds of treatments for a disease that he himself created in the first place, and just ends up doing more harm. When a government tries to regulate people's personal appetites, they invariably end up creating criminals out of people who otherwise would have been productive members of society. Think about it, drug users didn't resort to theft, fraud, or murder 80 years ago when you could cheaply and legally buy cocaine and heroin at the local pharmacy, just as you don't see anybody robbing a stationery store today just so they can buy a bottle of whiskey. Best regards to you and your family.
