The Illinois legislature is being paid overtime to get the job they were hired to do done, WHY?
The legislators can not come up with a new budget. They have gone past the deadline and are now on overtime. This is costing taxpayers $40,000 a day. Who says they get overtime? Elected officials are elected for a term in office. They are paid by the year, whether they show up for work or not. Why then are they rewarded with overtime pay to get the job they were hired to do done?
Answers:
Because they have the power to authorize overtime pay for themselves, and have done so. Nobody ever praises the moral or ethical qualities of politicians because most of them have none.
For the same reason construction workers get paid overtime when a project falls behind. The additional labor costs are far outweighed by the cost of not getting the job done.
I didn't hear any Righties complaining when the Texas State Legislature spent tens of millions of the taxpayer's dollars on redistricting 3 times this decade to create more safe Republican seats.
