What happens in a child abuse court hearing?

Answers:
Basically, it matters whether it's a custody hearing before a family court judge, or a criminal prosecution for child abuse.
Family courts tend to be more informal, with the judge doing most of the questioning, and no jury. The parties will call witnesses, and the attorneys will ask questions and present evidence, but the judge will often chime in as well.
Criminal trials are more formal, and the judge only rules on matters of law
