Statutory Child Support Laws?

Child Support?
I have a child that is turning 18 in December. She graduates in June. How long can I expect to receive child support? Do payments top when she turns 18? I live in Cook County, Illinois

Answers:
What ever it says in the support decree will determine. More then likely you will stop receiving support when school ends.

To bad Joey wont read this, but I am a firm believer of child support. If the children are well taken care of by you in food, clothing and a good roof over their heads, what you do with the money is only your business.

Child Support will end at 18 of graduation which ever is last. Now if your child goes to college some support can continue.

Other than that it sounds like your have been using the money for yourself and seeing the money stop is getting you down. This is why Child Support should be accounted for penny by penny to make sure the money is going to the child and not a parents drinking habit.
It is standard for child support to cease when the child turns 18- unless the order states otherwise. If you need to receive support while she is in college, then you can petition the courtfor child support after your child turns 18. In SC, the child must be attending college, or is going to attend college. You will more than likely need documents showing how much tuition and room and board are, and proff that she has attempted to receive grants/scholarships.
You have to read the decree. In my state it is customary for the decree to require support "through the child's eighteenth year." That is, until the 19th birthday. There are exceptions of course. For instance, my son has special needs, and is in special ed. The support obligation continues until he graduates from high school or is no longer eligible for special ed services. That could be until he is 21, or he could graduate. so, go back and find the decree and read it.
