Why is marijuana still illegal?
marijuana is harmless and has many uses, probably more than any other plant on this planet.
Answers:
Because it is very easy to grow, it is very easy to harvest, it is very easy to prepare.
Tobacco is hard to prepare, needs dried in the correct way. Alcohol requires special equipment if it is to be drinkable without causing illnesses.
Because of this, it would be very hard to tax. Taxation is everything nowdays for governments.

It has many uses, yes, but a lot of them are dangerous.
My guess is the fact that it kills brain cells but who knows, maybe I am wrong.
It isn't harmless. I does cause deaths whether indirectly or not and prolonged use causes dramatic decreases in IQ.
It does have many uses, but it is seen as a gateway drug.
It also cannot be taxed due to it's ease of growth and regulation would be a nightmare.
Another reason is they don't want children to use it. It makes it slightly(not really that much) harder to get if it is illegal. You must go through shadier channels to get it.
Finally it is getting to be that it won't matter if it becomes legal. The US govt is hitting smoking so hard that you wouldn't be able to smoke it anywhere anyway.
you people are dumb (not you joel)- it's ok though, our dirty, corrupt government has brainwashed all of you that what you have said is true, but what they dont tell you is that they actually did research, a study on what the 10 most harmful drugs are and they put this on an educational radio program- i happened to be listening to this program when it came on and here were the results(they did not mention all of them, but they did mention the most important one)

marijauna was nowhere on that list- the whole point of them putting this study on the radio was to say hey, this doesn't make sense- marijauna is harmless EXCEPT for maybe a little short termmemory loss...OH WOW,does this compare to the effects of alcohol, which , by the way, kills far more brain cells than weed,alcohol makes you black out(far worse than short term memory loss) and sometimes go on violent rampages(my father is an alcoholic and he told me that a man at one of his AA meeting stood up and made a testimony about how he got so drunk that he blacked out and stabbed his wife over 40 times and woke up next to herdead body with the knife still in his hands and is still serving a prison sentence- and i have seen violent outbursts up close and personal and have even done it myself a few times), and so on...weed has NEVER been proven to cause balck outs and violent rampages, or even car accidents(unless combined with excessive alcohol)...it has never caused liver damage,lung cancer, fetal injury, the list goes on and on... these are things that legal DRUGS(tobacco and alcohol) cause, and this HAS been proven...the drugs that hospitals are using for medical purposes are more harmful that weed(vicodin, codine,oxycontin, valiume,etc)
