What is the probability for one to be a victim of terrorism?how about drive by shooting?
or using a neglected bridges and /or other infra-structures? how about neglectng our youth and closing schools? does these non-actions make you feel safer, or spending billions of dollars on war in Iraq make you feel safer? i think we got our priorities wrong.
Answers:
for one thing u shouldnt be worried about being a victim of terrorism. Thats just what they want you to feel. SCARED. And if your scared about driving over a bridge, u should see a doctor
You are correct. We do have our priorities wrong. Unfortunately I am not sure how soon we will collectively "get a clue". I hope soon. But sometimes hoping is a useless endeavor.
My first guess is that you are a liberal.
Keep in mind that regarding the war, you are looking at things with perfect 20/20 hindsight. How do you measure whether the war has stimied terrorism efforts abroad? It is impossible to put a probability on any of your scenarios because really, anything can happen to anyone at any time. The difficult part is seeking out problems and dealing with them at the root, not after the fact. Unfortunately, that is what happened with 9/11. It is controversial and will forever be controversial if our war in Iraq is effective or not.
How is anything a "non-action"? Ill answer your questions chronologically.
1. You can't measure the probability of being a victim of terrorism until it happens. (unless you take the total victims of 9/11 and divide that number into the population of US citizens, that would be your probability of being an American victim)
2. You could measure the probability of being a victim of a drive by by dividing the number of drive-by's into the number of US citizens.
3. You could measure the probability of being a victim of a collapsed brigde into the number of US citizens.
Even if you did the math, your calculations would be a major ballpark estimate..there is not formula for any of your questions. You just have to put your faith and trust into the people that run our country. I have mine and I feel very safe where I am.
Here's a chart that gives you some perspective on relative risk:
http://stpeteforpeace.org/real.threat.ht...
If you have been paying attention to what's going on in the world, then you ought to know:
* when the US leaves Iraq, perhaps leaving behind a sensible (non-Bush) solution over there, all the people who have been doing terrorist attacks against the USA will go some place else to do their mischef, such as in North America
* Remember New Orleans, a city below sea level, had levees protected against a category 3 storm, then along came category 5 Katrina ... there's other places in the world at similar risk ... Japan had the world's largest nuclear power plant, protected against a 6.5 earth quake ... well guess what, they just had a 6.8 earth quake ... so if you are aware of what your local infrastructure is protected against, and the risk of tornado, earthquake etc. in your part of the world, you have some idea whether your part of the world is asking for trouble
* there are certain infrastructures that the terrorists particularly aim at ... government buildings, skyscrapers, icons of America, major infrastructure hubs like airports, oil ports, chemical plants, nuclear plants ... so if you are in the vicinity of one, your risks are higher
* When Pres Bush arrived in office, he was big on missile defense, because North Korea has stuff that can hit Alaska, and various other nations may be supplying stuff that terrorists can use & we all remember Saddam shooting at Israel, then more recently Hezbolla ... so we were going to get a defense against that ... then after 9-11 the priorities changed ... when really there are multiple threats ... the North Korea threat did not go away just because bin Laden shot at our homeland
