Background check - certificate of disposition?

I just got a great job with a huge company, and i have been working ther for about 2 months until, i got a call from HR saying they checked my criminal background and "they say", they found some convictions on my record, which i know for a fact is wrong, they have now sent me home with pay, pending an investigation, does anyone know the right paper work, i am supposed to show.

I called the courts and they said all i have to do is get a certificate of disposition where i have to show my id and ssn proving that i am not the person who was arrested What is a certificate of disposition, will this change anything if i show this to the company.

Answers:
It will most likely make a great difference to the company, because it will show that you are not the person involved in the convictions. This kind of situation happens on occasion to people who have names that are identical to those of criminals - and if you have a common name it's quite likely you'll have someone running around with your name who does some bad things.

Where it gets really sticky is when that person has the same birthday as yours!

A certificate of disposition will show additional detail about the individual, perhaps including a social security number or other identifying data, such as previous address, which won't match yours, and thus your company should be able to understand that the bad guy is unrelated to you.
